A Welcome from Your Host

This blog was a concept born out of a night of drinking at one of Cleveland’s finest establishments. I was out one evening after my weekly pickup basketball game, and with a stressful job and no need to get up before 8 am, I found myself closing the bar with a friend of a friend who just so happened to be in his mid-40s.

We analyzed just about every subject that our Captain and gingers steered us toward, and being the somewhat depressed, advice-seeking young sponge that I was, I found out that having kids is not like what you see in sitcoms, marriages aren’t as funny as stand-up comics lead you to believe (click the pic below for a special video) and it’s not as bad as it seems when you realize you won’t achieve all those dreams you have as a child.

That man is now known as The Godfather (for a number of other reasons), and the conversations that followed from that initial discussion have become the basis for the Rawblog.

So who am I? I’m one part wannabe-comedian, one part writer and one part extremely good listener. I’ve always managed to do many things decently, but never excelled at anything in particular, besides school. I have certain eccentricities.

Since I left my job as an investment banker in March (read more here), I’ve played a lot of golf, drank a lot of beer and had a lot of great conversations with friends (close and distant) about a number of topics that men don’t usually talk about. That’s what the Rawblog will feature. I’m not going to dive into it here, but hopefully you’ll like what you read, see and hear through the various posts that I will (try to) update regularly.

Job or no job, my hairline still recedes

But the Rawblog isn’t just for men. It isn’t meant to be a “guy’s guys” site, so women may enjoy a lot of the content as well. There will be some brief blog posts, some pictures and video, and in the coming days, podcasts. I hope to make podcasts the centerpiece of this site. More to come as that develops.

Is everything going to be a home run? Probably not. The Rawblog will never be “shock” comedy. It will never be a Dr. Phil therapy session. It’ll just be a mixture of humor of all kinds, mixed with some self-reflection and discovery –  all in the spirit of having a few drinks amongst friends.
